Have
you ever heard the expression "Exercise your mind?" There
is truth to this old adage. Brain cells die by the thousands every minute
of every day, slowly smoothing out the wrinkled pathways in your brain.
Though you may not want wrinkled skin, you do want wrinkles in your
head - these wrinkles fold up tighter and tighter as you learn, absorbing
knowledge like a sponge. When your brain starts to smooth out, your
mental performance slows down.
The
good news is that you don‚t have to let your brain waves slide - there
is a proven method to slow, stop and even reverse the slow death of
your brain. All you have to do is remember these three steps:
1. Exercise your body to
energize your mind! It‚s true that those whom exercise regularly feel
a certain oneness with their mind and body. Regular exercise creates
an overall feeling of well-being and detoxifies your brain of its assailing
free radical pollutants. Remember that any form of motion can qualify
as exercise, but aerobic activity is always best.
2. Do a mental stretch.
Learning just one new thing each day can help you keep your wits about
you. Find something interesting that you’d like to learn more about
to keep you motivated.
3. Food fine-tunes your
brain waves. Make sure that you nourish your mind with the proper nutrients.
Just as a healthy diet will keep your body going, healthy brain-food
will keep your mental motor running.
