Are You Sad?
Are you eating a SAD diet (Standard American Diet)? The typical
high-fat, high-cholesterol, low-vitamin, fast food pre-prepared meals
that Americans consume are hazardous to our health. According to the
Surgeon General, 8 out of 10 leading causes of death in the U.S. are closely associated with our diet! Heart disease
is responsible for over 42% of all deaths and cancer accounts for 20%.
In 1991, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) developed a new
program, which recommended eating at least 5-6 servings of fruits and
vegetables daily. Scientific evidence has shown that those who consume
about 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables every day were 50% less
likely to develop cancer of the digestive and respiratory tracts than
those who consumed fewer than 2 servings a day.
Additionally,
fruits and vegetables are low in fat and provide essential nutrients
such as folic acid, antioxidants and fiber. These are particularly beneficial
in the prevention of heart disease. Unfortunately, most Americans still
do not eat the recommended daily amount; which the minimum that is required
for normal health.
