Chemical Name: MALATHION (mal-a-THYE-on)
This medicine is a pediculicide used to treat head lice.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy or breast-feeding.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Apply enough medicine to dry hair to completely wet the hair and scalp. THIS MEDICINE IS FLAMMABLE. Do not use near heat source, open flame, or while smoking. DO NOT USE a hair dryer to dry hair. Allow hair to air dry. Wash your hands immediately after using this medicine. After 8 to 12 hours, shampoo hair. Rinse, and then comb the hair with a fine-tooth comb. Start at the scalp and comb to the ends. If lice are still present after 7 to 9 days, use this medicine again. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), away from heat and open flame.
AVOID GETTING THIS MEDICINE IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your nose or mouth. When using this medicine on a child, have the child keep eyes closed while applying. If it gets in the eyes, flush with water immediately. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
A SIDE EFFECT that may occur while taking this medicine is stinging. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include slow, shallow breathing or difficulty breathing.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
