Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking an antifungal agent, astemizole, cisapride, fluvoxamine, macrolide antibiotics, sertraline, terfenadine, or zileuton. Other medicines which may affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation in the EKG) should not be taken with pimozide. These medicines include dofetilide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, amiodarone (and other Class Ia and Class III anti-arrhythmics), sparfloxacin, gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin, halofantrine, mefloquine, pentamidine, arsenic trioxide, levomethadyl acetate, dolasetron mesylate, probucol, tacrolimus, and ziprasidone among others. QTc prolongation can infrequently result in serious, rarely fatal, irregular heartbeats. If you are currently taking any of these medicines consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking pimozide in order to minimize the risk of this effect. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of irregular heartbeat, or low blood levels of potassium or magnesium.
