Chemical Name: ALPROSTADIL (al-PROS-ta-dil)
This medicine is a prostaglandin (PGE-1) used to treat certain types of impotence.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions or allergies. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN under 18 years old is not recommended. Please talk with your doctor about risks and benefits before giving this medicine to your child.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE in the refrigerator. This medicine may be kept at room temperature for up to 14 days.
BE SURE TO CAREFULLY FOLLOW THE DOSING PROCEDURE described to you by your doctor. Do not use more of this medicine or use it more often than recommended. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU EXPERIENCE painful erections or erections that last for more than 4 hours. IF YOU DO NOT EXPERIENCE any improvement after using this medicine, check with your doctor. DO NOT CHANGE THE DOSE after establishing your effective dose without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. USE OF THIS MEDICINE WILL NOT PREVENT the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). USE A CONDOM with this product if your partner is pregnant or could be pregnant. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include groin pain, dizziness or fainting, flu-like symptoms, or pain in the penis. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience swelling of leg veins; leg pain; fast pulse; redness, lumps, swelling, tenderness, or curving of the erect penis. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include lightheadedness, fainting, lasting pain in the penis, and painful erections lasting more than 6 hours.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. Dispose of properly after use. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
