Chemical Name: BETAMETHASONE (bay-ta-METH-a-sone)
This medicine is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching and scaling of the scalp. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking prednisone (or similar medicines). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TO USE THIS MEDICINE, turn the can upside down. Dispense a small amount onto a saucer or other cool surface. With your fingers, gently massage a small amount of this medicine into the affected area until the foam disappears. Repeat until the entire affected area of scalp is treated. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Wash your hands immediately after using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Do not puncture, break, or burn container, even if it appears empty.
AVOID FIRE, FLAMES, AND SMOKING when using this medicine. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. DO NOT GET THIS MEDICINE in your eyes. Do not use any other medicines or special cleansers on your scalp unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. BEFORE YOU BEGIN USING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience skin thinning and discoloration, stinging, rash, dry skin, itching, burning, redness, or swelling not present before using this medicine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include increased thirst or urination; muscle weakness; or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.
If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
