Chemical Name: DESMOPRESSIN (des-moe-PRESS-in)
Desmopressin acetate is an antidiuretic hormone used to treat the symptoms of diabetes insipidus, which include increased thirst and urination. Desmopressin may also be used to treat bedwetting and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
Follow the directions for using Desmopressin acetate provided by your doctor. STORE Desmopressin acetate at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF Desmopressin acetate, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE Desmopressin acetate if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT USE MORE OF Desmopressin acetate or use it for longer than recommended because serious side effects may occur. Make sure that you are drinking the correct amount of fluid while taking Desmopressin acetate. Serious side effects may occur if too much liquid is taken in while on desmopressin acetate, especially in children or the elderly. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Desmopressin acetate. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be done to monitor your condition or to check for side effects. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using desmopressin acetate during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF Desmopressin acetate IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Desmopressin acetate, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible side effects
NO COMMON SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED with the proper use of Desmopressin acetate. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience headache, nausea and vomiting, unusual tiredness, confusion, or unusual weight gain. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Desmopressin acetate is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include headache, nausea, stomach pain, and fluid retention.
DO NOT SHARE Desmopressin with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE desmopressin acetate for other health conditions. KEEP Desmopressin acetate out of the reach of children. IF USING Desmopressin acetate FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
