Chemical Name: ERGOTAMINE (er-GOT-a-meen) and CAFFEINE (kaf-EEN)
This medicine is an ergot alkaloid and analgesic aid combination used to
prevent and treat migraine headaches. It may also be used to treat other
conditions as determined by your doctor.
WARNING: Infrequently, a very serious life-threatening decrease in the amount of
blood supply to the hands and feet (peripheral ischemia) and rarely to the brain
can occur when this medication is taken with drugs that affect liver metabolism
(e.g., potent CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors). Do not take this medicine with
macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin, troleandomycin),
protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, nelfinavir, indinavir, amprenavir,
saquinavir), azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole). Some
medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR
DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you
are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking telithromycin,
delavirdine, efavirenz, voriconazole, sibutramine, dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine,
"triptan" migraine drugs (e.g., sumatriptan). Also see WARNING statement above.
ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking
dopamine, nitrates (e.g., isosorbide, nitroglycerin), nefazodone, fluconazole,
fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, zileuton, metronidazole, clotrimazole, beta-blockers
(e.g., propranolol), nicotine (e.g., tobacco, nicotine patches), caffeine,
theophylline, or other mild CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors. Consult your pharmacist
for more information. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions
including smoking/tobacco use, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF
THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of high blood pressure or
heart or kidney conditions. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any
questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. BEGIN
USING THIS MEDICINE at the first sign of an attack. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN 6
TABLETS for any headache or 10 tablets in 1 week, unless otherwise directed by
your doctor. Do not use daily on a regular basis. AVOID EATING GRAPEFRUIT OR
DRINKING GRAPEFRUIT JUICE WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE. STORE THIS MEDICINE at
room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.
IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
AVOID LARGE AMOUNTS OF caffeine-containing foods and beverages, such as coffee,
tea, cocoa, cola drinks, and chocolate. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW
MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or
pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU
SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. THIS
MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this
medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting,
weakness of the legs, or arm or leg pain. If they continue or are bothersome,
check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience
numbness or tingling of your fingers or toes, chest pain, change in heart rate,
bluish discoloration of the fingers and toes, or itching. If you notice other
effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency
room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea; diarrhea; vomiting;
numbness, tingling, and bluish discoloration of fingers and toes; drowsiness;
and seizures.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT
USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the
reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain
refills before your supply runs out.
